P90X vs. the Norwex® Sport Towel

2013 has been a very big year for me in many ways. It started out with high expectations as I was expecting my third child in late January and I was blessed to have a healthy little girl exactly on my birthday. Naturally, my feelings of joy were quickly joined by exhaustion from overwhelmed days and sleepless nights. I had so many things to do and so little time. Not only was I struggling to keep my home clean and organized but I also wanted to lose my baby weight as soon as possible. I needed to do some things differently.

Each of my three children had taken their toll on my body and I wanted to get back to normal while eating the same things and doing the same things I had done before kids. Fortunately, I had a great OBGYN who I talked with about this and he told me that his wife had gotten in shape after having 4 kids by following P90X. It wasn’t what I wanted to hear but it was what I needed to hear. There are many reviews out there on P90X and some unbelievable before and after pictures – some are so amazing that you may be skeptical. This isn’t intended to be a review on P90X, but I will say that I did see great results. Anybody can see the same changes I did, but it takes a lot of hard work and a lot of sweat. Besides a pull up bar and some weights, you will need a good workout towel and I sure put the Norwex® Sport Towel to the test.

Fitness towels are probably the last thing anybody thinks about when it comes to exercise. You want to look good in your workout clothes and use the right equipment, but workout towels normally just get rolled up and shoved in a bag. After 45 days of using a standard cotton hand towel, I thought I would give the Norwex® Sport Towel a try to see how it compared. I found that the cotton towel was nice and soft to wipe off my face and neck, but the thickness of the towel which gave it the softness also took longer to dry out and I found that it felt damp and had a musty, sweaty smell after a few days. The Norwex® Sport Towel is made of a suede microfiber and being on the relatively thin side meant it didn’t have the same fluffy feel against my body. However, the characteristics of the highly absorbent microfiber along with its weight also meant that it dried very quickly, no matter how sweaty I was. As an added benefit, the Norwex® Sport Towel is made with antibacterial microfibers designed to inhibit odor and mildew so that your towel doesn’t start smelling like a gym.

The Norwex® Sport Towel performed so well for me that I used it every day for the second half of P90X without washing it even once just to see how well it would really perform. I wasn’t disappointed; it was never damp for my next workout and was odor free the entire time. Even though the Sport Towel is constructed with antibacterial microfibers, make sure you hang it up to dry between uses and you too will have a great fitness towel that lasts you a long time.

What’s So Different – Norwex® and Bona® Mops

I love doing in home parties, but for me all parties do come with a little nervous excitement. Of course I’m excited because I love sharing with everyone how they can clean their homes in a natural, chemical free way. The side of nervousness comes because you never know what type of questions or cleaning problems people will have that you will be asked to solve.

At one of my recent Norwex® parties, I had the host ask me for something I had never been asked before. They were interested in buying the large Tile Mop Pad but they didn’t have the Telescopic Mop Handle or the Mop Base and they weren’t interested in buying those pieces either. They let me know that they have the Bona® hardwood mop system and they wanted to use that mop handle and base with Norwex® mop pads. Before this party, I had not heard of Bona® mops so I had a lot to learn. Fortunately, since they were the party host and we were at their house, I asked them to get their Bona mop and we used my demo mop pads to make sure they could work together.

I learned that there were a few similarities between the two floor mops. Both mop systems have their own unique handle and base design and each use hook and loop to attach a microfiber cleaning pad for great cleaning results. Both mop systems are available with a few different options for microfiber mop pads each with a slightly different use. We tried out the Norwex® mop pads on the Bona® mop handle and both the size of the pad as well as the hook and loop attachment method worked interchangeably.

As similar as the mops appear at first glance, there are two distinct differences. While both systems use microfiber mop pads to clean, the difference is in what is used with the mop pads. Norwex® states that you can clean your floors with only water and the use of any chemicals or additives will just leave a residue on your floor. Bona® prides itself in their cleaning solutions which are said to be non-toxic and environmentally responsible. I have never used the Bona® floor care system so I can’t say that one system cleans better than the other. However, with Bona® you will have the ongoing costs of purchasing additional floor cleaner and you will need to buy a different cleaner for hardwood than you will for tile. With Norwex®, regardless of the surface – even specialty flooring like bamboo – all you will need is water. The second difference between the two mop systems is the quality of the microfiber mop pads. Both the party host and I found that the Norwex® microfiber mop pads were thicker and of higher quality. Add in the unique nylon fibers woven into the Tile Mop Pad for extra cleaning power on bathroom and kitchen tile floors and you know why the host bought a Norwex® mop pad.

Do Norwex® Enviro Cloths Really Work?

Talk to people around you or search for it on the internet and it is easy to find many glowing reviews of Norwex® products. People rave about how well the microfiber cloths pick up everything from their counters or how they no longer need to keep cleaning chemicals in the house. If Norwex® is new to you however, it can be easy to be skeptical of some of the claims that they make about cleaning with just water. Just listen to some of the claims that they make…

“Norwex Microfiber Cloths do not spread dirt, grease or residual particles around – they pick up everything!”

“You don’t breathe, touch or ingest chemicals – with Norwex Microfiber Cloths you simply utilize water.”

“Norwex MicroSilver in the cloth goes to work with self-purification properties against mold, fungi and bacterial odor within 24 hours”

I’m sure we would all love to get rid of the cleaning chemicals in our cabinets and clean our homes with only water, but we need to have a solution that actually cleans as well as chemicals do. Reading between the lines of the claims above, it seems to imply that by using their microfiber Enviro Cloths with only water you will be able to pick up everything from your surfaces and the MicroSilver in the cloth will prevent the growth of mold, fungi and bacteria in the cloths within 24 hours after use. Those are pretty impressive claims and I’m sure you’re excited about the possibilities, but can anybody prove those claims are true?

Fortunately, there were many people who were wondering whether the claims could be backed up so Andy Wise of WMC-TV Action 5 News looked into it. Andy is a 3-time Emmy nominee for investigative reporting and took over the station’s consumer investigations unit in 2008. After consulting with a microbiology lab coordinator at the University of Memphis, they conducted tests on dozens of petri dishes contaminated with e-coli. On the samples that were treated with paper towel that had been sprayed by a leading all-purpose cleaner they found that NONE of the bacteria had been removed. However, on the samples cleaned with the Norwex® microfiber cloth they found it had reduced the surface bacteria by 92% without any chemicals at all!

I Don’t Cry Over Spilled Milk Anymore

As a mother of three, we go through A LOT of milk. Maybe it’s partially because we live in the dairy state but it’s not unusual for us to go through three gallons of milk in a week. Of course I’m not complaining, milk is vital to the growth and development of children so I want to make sure they are drinking enough.

My oldest child recently turned five years old and he is in the “I want to do everything myself” stage. With the use of a kitchen chair there is no shelf or cupboard that is out of his reach. He especially loves helping out his little sisters and gets them whatever they need. When somebody is looking for something to drink my son will grab a cup from the cupboard and set it on the floor. Then he’ll grab the gallon of milk from the fridge and pour a cup for whoever wants one. Being five years old, it’s inevitable that the milk will spill from time to time and leave a big mess.

Spilled Milk

I’ve never enjoyed cleaning up spills, but I especially dislike cleaning up a milk spill. My husband would run and grab the roll of paper towel whenever the milk spilled on the floor. 10 sheets of paper towel later and he would tell you it was clean. My plan of action was to get a cleaning rag and try to soak up as much as I could before rinsing it off under the faucet, wringing it out and trying again. Either method and it seemed like we were pushing the milk around just as much as we were picking it up. On top of that, milk has a way of leaving behind a sticky residue on the floor after you think you’ve cleaned it up. The worst part is when you don’t notice it until the area has dried and you get to clean it all over again.

As would be expected, we had another spill recently. Although I have to confess, rather than being disappointed at the thought of cleaning up another mess I was actually excited to clean it up! Why would this excite me? I had recently begun using my Norwex® cloths and this was my first chance to tackle a milk spill! I took out my Enviro Cloth, got it damp and took to the floor. One pass through with the cloth and it picked up all the milk and held it within the cloth. Unbelievable! I didn’t even have to go to the sink in between to rinse the cloth and wring it out. That sticky residue? It wasn’t there. I love my Enviro Cloth!

Taking Cleaning by Storm

Thunderstorms have always fascinated me. I love watching the way that lightning lights up the night sky followed shortly after by the rolling thunder. I marvel at the rain falling as if in sheets, so heavy that I can’t see more than a few feet outside the windows of my house.

 Last night we had some of those summer storms roll through and it reminded me of my Norwex® launch party. I had been both nervous and excited for my party to come. I was excited to share the great cleaning products with everyone who was coming but I was nervous because it was my first show and I didn’t have a lot of experience with the products. I knew what really sold me on  Norwex® was the first hand testimonials about how these products were changing the lives of the people who used them but I was afraid that I didn’t have enough to share.

 

 As my launch party approached so did a front which brought severe weather along with it. The weather was so bad at times that I was beginning to wonder if my next door neighbor would even make it. The windows that I love to watch the storms through provided me a testimonial that evening for everybody at my party to experience first hand. The sheets of rain began pouring through a bad seal in my windows and running down to the woodwork below. I quickly grabbed the Norwex® Hand Towel and put it where the water was pooling. By the time it stopped raining A LOT of water had come in and the towel was very wet. I picked up the towel to wipe up the excess water you would expect to find underneath and it was dry! The towel held all the water and wicked away all of the moisture from the surface. What an amazing towel!
